Eidetic Variations is like theme and variations in the sense that a theme is presented followed by numerous manipulated versions of the original. In this piece, the theme is undefined, and even unfinished, thus listeners do not understand the theme that is to be developed. Additionally, the theme is not simply manipulated; rather, the components of the theme are presented in various temporal configurations. As listeners experience the unordered sequence of events through multiple hearings--each of which provide them with a new angle to sense the theme--they gain a slightly greater knowledge of the theme's essence upon each pass.
(Besides minimal filtering and mixing, the recordings are un-manipulated. This piece should be understood as a phenomenological sound-scape experiment.)
